This stole is made from a combination of antique Meisen 銘仙 Kimonos.

Originating in the Taisho period, a time of rampant cultural exchange between Japan and the West, Meisen Kimonos feature bold and colorful designs heavily influenced by Western Modernist art. The patterns are created from a hand weaving process called Kasuri 絣. Kasuri is a term for textiles that have been woven with threads that are dyed specifically to create patterns in the fabric as they come together in the weaving process. It requires a tremendous amount of planning as threads have to be pre-painted exactly to achieve the final pattern. It’s characterized by a slightly blurred or brushed appearance, the beautiful mark of imperfections in hand-weaving.

Dimensions
30 × 160cm / 12 × 63 inches
